Albania
SEPTEMBER 2007: In Albania, Titan Cement has received approval from the government to construct a US$200 million plant. The unit will be completed within two years and will have an initial production capacity of 0.8 million tpa, later rising to 1.5 million tpa.

Canada
SEPTEMBER 2007:In April, it was announced that FLSmidth had signed a conditional agreement with the Board of Directors of Groupe Laperrire Verreault Inc. (GL) to acquire the company's process division (GL Process) consisting of the two companies Dorr-Oliver Eimco and Krebs Engineers. The agreement was among other conditions subject to the approval of at least 75% of GL's shareholders, on a per class basis, as well as the necessary governmental approvals. read more...

SEPTEMBER 2007:HAZEMAG & EPR GmbH has received two important orders from China to supply all the crushing equipment, including the apron conveyors, for two clinker production lines to be set up in Sudan and Jordan respectively. read more...

JULY 2007: KHD has been awarded three contracts by the Asia Cement Group to supply three new production lines: Sichuan Ya-Dong Cement Company: a 4200 tpd clinker production line and an 80 tph cement mill. Hubei Ya-Dong Cement Company: a 4200 tpd clinker production line and an 80 tph cement mill. Yangzhou Ya-Dong Cement Company: an 80 tph cement grinding station. The contracts cover engineering, supply of equipment and supervision services for erection and commissioning. Production start-up of the Sichuan and Hubei plants is scheduled for December 2008.

Columbia
SEPTEMBER 2007: Cementos Argos S.A. has chosen FLSmidth to supply a new 5250 tpd line and additional aftermarket services. The US$100 million contract will see FLSmidth's US project centre supply all the main machinery, including a five-stage preheater with a low NOx ILC, a ROTAX 2 kiln, a Multi-Movable Cross-Bar Cooler and two OK vertical roller mills for finish cement grinding.

Germany
SEPTEMBER 2007: HeidelbergCement has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Compagnie de Saint Gobain on the sale of the maxit Group. The purchase price amounts to e2125 million. The closing is subject to regulatory approval and HeidelbergCement expects the transaction to close in late 2007. The company employs 5130 people and is present in 30 countries. In 2006, turnover totalled approximately e1.2 billion and operating income before depreciation reached e179 million. HeidelbergCement will use the transaction proceeds to help finance its acquisition of the British building materials producer Hanson PLC announced earlier this year.

MAY 2007: Holcim has awarded ABB Switzerland Ltd an order to install its raw mix preparation (RMP) solution, as well as upgrading the existing ABB LINKman installation to an Expert Optimiser, at the Hšver plant. The installation will include modules to optimise raw mix proportioning, as well as modules to optimise the raw mills and cement mills. The installation is expected to result in more stable product quality, higher throughput and the associated energy savings. Furthermore, significant gains are expected in the efficient use of the resources available in Hšver's raw material quarry.

MAY 2007: Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) has signed an EGP760 million contract with the Cairo Electricity Production Company (CEPC), an affiliate of the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity, for construction work on a new 2 x 350 MW thermal power plant. read more...

APRIL 2007: Gebr. Pfeiffer AG recently received a contract from PER-TECH for Industrial Equipment and Supplies FZE, Dubai, UAE, to supply an MPS 5000 B vertical roller mill to SVCC's cement plant in Beni Suef, Egypt. read more...

India
SEPTEMBER 2007: Imerys, Calderys' parent company, signed a final agreement for the aquisition of ACE Refractories, the Indian leader in monolithic refractories. ACE specialises in monolithic refractory solutions and has substantial market shares in the steelmaking, cement and thermal power sectors. With two plants located in central India and five sales agencies in the country's major cities, ACE achieves annual sales of over E50 million. Calderys has been present in India since 2002 with a sales agency. This aquisition will place the group in an ideal position to gain from the expected strong growth in the Indian monolithic refractories market, as well as increasing its capacity to effectively serve the Middle Eastern and Asian markets.

APRIL 2007: Orient Cement (Orient Paper and Industries Ltd.) awarded Humboldt Wedag, India, and KHD Humboldt Wedag, Germany, a contract for the engineering and supply of a new clinker grinding unit with a capacity of 160 tph PPC cement with a Blaine fineness of 3400 cm_/g. The unit will be located at the Jalgaon cement plant in Maharashtra. read more...

Italy
MAY 2007:
FCT ACTech Pty. Ltd. has been contracted by Buzzi Unicem S.p.A. to supply two COSMA systems for plants in Guidonia, Italy, and Selma MO, USA. This follows supply of the first COSMA system to Buzzi Unicem's Trino plant in 2005.

Japan
MAY 2007: Taiheiyo Cement Corp. is to invest some 3 billion yen at its Oita plant in a garbage incinerator ash processing facility. The new facility will process around 40 000 tpa, removing metal and chlorine from incinerator ash, enabling the remaining material to be used as fuel. Combined with the company's existing Kumagaya plant, this project will increase its annual processing capacity to 100 000 t.

Pakistan
JUNE 2007: WŠrtsila has won a contract from Lucky Cement Ltd to convert six diesel fuelled power generating sets to natural gas. The company chose a dual conversion to reduce operating costs, as natural gas is cheaper than fuel oil, as well as being more environmentally friendly. The first converted generating set will begin operation in November 2007, with the other conversions scheduled for completion at the start of the third quarter in 2008. The cost of the deal was not disclosed.

JULY 2007: Gulf Cement Company has awarded FLSmidth a DKK1.25 billion contract (approximately e168 million) to supply all machinery and equipment for a new 5000 tpd cement plant to be constructed west of Doha. read more...

APRIL 2007: OOO JUGPK Novotroizk recently awarded ZAB-Industrietechnik und Service GmbH a contract for engineering and equipment supply for a new cement production plant with a capacity of 3000 tpd of clinker. The plant will be erected in Novotroizk in the area of Orenburg. read more...

Saudi Arabia
SEPTEMBER 2007: KHD Humboldt Wedag International has been awarded a US$110 million contract to build a new 5000 tpd clinker production line by Saudi Arabia-based Arabian Cement Company.

JULY 2007: FLSmidth Airtech has won an order from Eastern Province Cement Company Ltd. (EPCC) in Dammam to supply four large fabric filter installations. The filters were supplied as part of a project to reduce dust emissions from the two existing cement lines to less than 15 mg/Nm3. FLSmidth Airtech will supply two FabriClean(r) and two RetroClean(r) filters, including ducts, supports, dust transportation systems, fans, motors, MCC, etc.

APRIL 2007: Hazemag & EPR GmbH has received two orders for the supply of primary limestone crushers. The first, a 1200 tph AP-PM 2025, will be installed at a new plant at the Northern Region Cement Company in Saudi Arabia. China National Building Material and Equipment Import & Export Corporation (CNBM) is handling the contract. An AP-PM 2022 1000 tph crusher will be installed at Akcansa Cement in Turkey as part of its new second production line. The line will be constructed by the China Triumph International Engineering Co. Ltd. (CTIEC) of Nanjing.

APRIL 2007: Orascom Construction Industries announced that it has agreed to enter into a 50/50 joint venture with Khayyat Group, one of the leading industrial investors in Saudi Arabia with investments in building materials and real estate, in Al Safwa Cement Company. read more...

Singapore
JUNE 2007: In a US$30 million deal, Holcim has acquired 47.3% of Jurong Cement Limited (JCL) from three major shareholders. JCL is predominantly active in the ready-mix concrete sector, as well as in slag, special mortars and bagged cement in Singapore. In accordance with the country's takeover regulations, Holcim has further announced a mandatory general offer to the remaining shareholders of JCL at the same price of SGD2.10 per share. The transaction is due to be completed by mid-2007.

Syria
SEPTEMBER 2007: FLSmidth has won a contract worth approximately DKK840 million (approximately e110 million) to supply machinery and equipment for a new 7500 tpd production line to Syrian Cement Company, a 75% owned subsidiary of Egyptian-based Orascom Construction Industries (OCI). The new greenfield plant will be situated close to Syria's border with Turkey, some 500 km north of the capital of Damascus. read more...

Turkey
MAY 2007: CRH has announced two acquisitions totalling US$293 million (e225 million). In Turkey, the company purchased a 50% stake in Denizli Cement from Erin Holdings, a local conglomerate. Under the agreement, CRH will have joint management control of the business. Denizli Cement operates 13 ready-mixed concrete plants in the city of Denizli in south western Turkey. The company has some 100 million t of limestone reserves and produced 1.8 million t of cement last ear. In Florida, CRH exercised its option to buy out the remaining 50% stake in Paver Systems, having acquired an initial 50% in January 2004. Paver Systems manufactures interlocking concrete pavers with three facilities in West Palm Beach, Tampa and Orlando. The two deals bring the total amount invested by CRH in purchases and capital expenditure deals to e775 million so far this year.

APRIL 2007: In February 2007, Gebr. Pfeiffer secured another order for the supply of an MPS vertical roller mill, this time from Denizli Cimento Sanayii T.A.S. The MPS 4750 B mill will be capable of grinding 460 tph of cement raw material to a fineness of 14% R 0.090 mm and is to be installed at the cement manufacturer's Denizli plant.

UAE
SEPTEMBER 2007: Gebr. Pfeiffer AG has been appointed to supply an MPS 225 GC mill for gypsum calcination to the United Arab Emirates via Grenzebach BSH, Bad Hersfeld. The mill, which is to be set up in Abu Dhabi, will be capable of drying, grinding and calcining 60 tph of plaster. Ground to a fineness of 3% R 0.200 µm, the plaster will be used to produce gypsum plasterboard. This recent order reflects the successful cooperation between Gebr. Pfeiffer AG and Grenzebach BSH, the beginning of which was marked by the supply of the first gypsum plasterboard plant featuring a Pfeiffer MPS vertical roller mill to Brasil in 1998. The mill for Abu Dhabi will be the fifth gypsum calcination mill to be delivered to a gypsum plasterboard factory.

UK
MAY 2007: UK based Cement Performance International (cpi) has been awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2007. The prize recognises companies that have demonstrated growth in overseas earnings achieved over a period of no less than three years. Currently in its fifth year of operation, the company has increased its overall and international operating revenues, with over 90% coming from overseas. In the past five years cpi has completed assignments in Colombia, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Peru, Pakistan, UAE, Italy, Spain and the UK and is continuing to expand its operations.

USA
MAY 2007: Hanson Permanente Cement, based in Cupertino, California, has awarded Automation Resources Inc. a contract for the upgrade of its plant process control system and for a new robotic laboratory automation system. The process control system is centred on the PCS7/CEMAT control platform. The laboratory automation system incorporates automatic sampling, sample transport, preparation, analysis and a laboratory information management system and advances control modules. Siemens Energy and Automation, Herzog Automation and Process Control Solutions Canada Limited are also involved in the project.

Vitenam
OCTOBER 2007: Mr Somyod Tangmeelarp, Managing Director of the Siam Refractory Industry Co., Ltd,. Mr Vu Van Hau, General Director of the Thang Long Cement Joint Stock Company, and Mr Nguyen Trong Cu, Director of Viet Duc Investment Trading Co., Ltd, signed a contract for the supply of refractory products and services for Thang Long Cement Project, for which Siam Refractory and Viet Duc joined hands as a joint bidder. The project involves the construction of Thang Long's No. 1 production line in Quang Ninh province, around 150 km north of Hanoi, which, once completed, will have a capacity of 6000 tpd, making it one of the largest cement plants in Vietnam. read more...
